Unlike convex models, the concave (socket-style) tip is specifically designed to collect and carry bone grafting material or autogenous bone chips ahead of the instrument. This allows the clinician to “tent” the Schneiderian membrane with a cushion of bone during a Summer’s technique sinus lift, significantly reducing the risk of membrane perforation.
